Hourglass triplefin
The Hourglass triplefin (''Enneapterygius elegans'') (also known as the Elegant triplefin in the United Kingdom〔(Common names for ''Enneapterygius elegans'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is a species of triplefin blenny in the genus ''Enneapterygius''.〔(''Enneapterygius elegans'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was originally described by W.C.H. Peters as a species of ''Tripterygium'', in 1876,〔Peters, W. (C. H.), 1876 (18495 ) ''Übersicht der von Hrn. Prof. Dr. K. Möbius in Mauritius und bei den Seychellen gesammelten Fische.'' Monatsberichte der Königlichen Preuss() Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin 1876: 435-447.〕 but was reassigned to ''Enneapterygius'' by W. Holleman in 1986.〔Holleman, W., 1986 ''Tripterygiidae.'' p. 755-758. In M.M. Smith and P.C. Heemstra (eds.) Smiths' sea fishes. Springer-Verlag, Berlin.〕 It is a tropical blenny known from reefs across the western central Indian to the central Pacific Ocean, and swims at a depth range of 0-12 metres.〔 Male hourglass triplefins can reach a maximum length of 4 centimetres.〔 The blenny gets its common name from an hourglass-shaped marking on its body.〔
